Upon meeting Min-ji, she exudes a polite and calm aura. Since young, she always speaks in quiet manner, which makes her rather mysterious and uncommunicative. As she sometime refuses to speak to someone that approaches her, these very traits makes her seems unfriendly or rude. Her inattention causes a variety of issues, including difficulty organizing her belongings, zoning out, and failing to pay attention to what others are saying. Even so, Min-ji is a hard worker; if she is assigned a task that she finds interesting, she will work on it for hours and hours. She is also a self-reliant person, capable of taking care of herself without needing assistance from others since she was a child and she rather confronts issues by herself. Min-ji is also modest as she is quiet and doesn't like receiving much recognition from others - and she tends to downplay her own abilities. Having a difficult time expressing her feelings or hardly feeling content about herself, she can be a little self-critical. Hence she formed a small-sized cloud from her water magic and floats above her that can convey her emotions (bright means calm and happy, grey means bored and rain / thunder means upset etc.)
BACKGROUND
Min-ji was born as the only daughter of a young couple that resided in Seoul, South Korea. Her father works in various but unstable jobs, while her mother works as a tailor and also as a waitress on weekends. Constantly financially in debt and in a difficult situation, Min-ji’s mother felt the abundance of stress she had to carry. The couple often quarrel and they finally settled on a divorce.Min-ji has been raised entirely by her mother since then. There was no happiness or hope in the young mother's eyes, and Min-Ji frequently had to become independent to ease her burden. While her mother was at work, she was also sent to a low-cost daycare in their small neighbourhood. She received little to no attention from the caregiver and rarely interacted with other children because she had a speech delay at a young age. Min-ji, as an inquisitive child, she often wandered or spent time by herself drawing, reading, and gathering some bugs and flowers to occupy the majority of her time. These activities kept her from feeling lonely, however sometimes Min-Ji was bullied by other kids at the daycare as she was vulnerable and friendless. One day, in defense, Min-ji accidentally made every child cry in fear, where the room was dark and filled with a downpour, yet unaware it came from her own ability. Her mother received complaints from other parents as well as the caretaker. She had to stop sending Min-ji to the daycare and decided to bring her along to her workplace. That day, Min-ji noticed that the Earth had bestowed herself a gift ; water magic.Astonished with her own strength, Min-ji learned to control and experiment with her water magic in a variety of settings – including reviving withered plants, filling her painting cup without having to run for a faucet, and tampering her mean neighbor's electricity by cascading water on it. Her adventurous spirit grows as a result of the power she regained. She wished she could tell her mother and others about her experiences, but she is terrible at explaining them. Min-ji begins telling stories by drawing comics because others find it easier to understand visually.Min-ji’s mother met a wealthy half-Japanese businessman who came to her shop to have his suit repaired one rainy day. They eventually fell in love and remarried a few months later. Perhaps this time, Min-ji and her mother will be able to start a new life in a new place, as they packed their belongings and relocated to Hokkaido, Japan, with her new stepfather. Min-ji was fortunate that her new stepfather was a warm-hearted man who showered her with affection and care. Their new home is cozier and more spacious than their previous one, with plenty of food on the table and warmth from their fireplace. Min-ji had never seen her mother so pleased, and they had finally found their happily ever after. Not long after, her stepfather gave her mother her own dressmaking and tailoring shop.To Min-Ji, everything weren’t that easy for her– she was overwhelmed with studying new information, new environment and learning Japanese language at the same time. She was sent to a private international school, where the students come from different backgrounds and that require special needs. With the support from her new school as well as finally having a stable relationship with her family, Min-ji grew to be a well-educated and sophisticated girl. However, she still kept her taciturn demeanor and is still a little awkward with strangers.At a later date, Min-ji’s stepfather introduced Azarashi High to her and is looking forward to enrolling her there the following year when she turns 15. He assured her that there are many students that were like her, too. Upon hearing this, anxiety and worry started spiraling into her brain. She has to meet new faces, new teachers, and new environments all over again. On the bright side, there's an enormous art studio that could provide new inspiration for little Min-ji for her comic project.. And with that, she agreed to take the risk.
